Parents Day at OCJB
30 May 2009, Saturday is the start of the new semester break for the secondary schools and it is also Olympia College, Johor Bahru (OCJB)’s “Parents Day”. OCJB organized Parents Day since 2007 with an objective to provide a face-to-face discussions with parents on the latest updates on the College as well as the progress of its students.
The parents gathered at the Johor Bahru Campus at 10am. After prayers, the Principal delivered a speech introducing the Parents Day and inviting all parents to speak freely with all faculty members. Dr. Raj, the Chairman of the OCJB Academic Committee informed the parents that students of OCJB have been well accepted by the industries because they were doing quality thesis that contains 15,000 words using the English Language. Dr. Sankaran, the Activity Chairman also informed about the student’s participation in the “Rotary-Spastic Charity Carnival 2009” and also the election of Student Union. The English Club was also formed on this day through the announcement.
Mr Low Jiun Jack, Principal of the Johor Bahru campus said “Parents' Day provides an opportunity for the parents to come to OCJB campus and to interact with the faculty and staff in a variety of ways. At Olympia, we would also like get to know the parents better and also get their feedback and listen to their concerns. It is an occasion to foster a good relationship with the parents. It is a chance to create a positive tradition based on a core axiom –that the role of parents is crucial in the nurturing and development of their children, and thus requires investment, focus and commitment.”
There were a total of 25 families that consisted of Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Business Management, Certificate in Executive Secretaryship, Certificate in Hotel Operations and Diploma in Information Technology students visited the college. They met the Course Coordinators, Lecturers as well as the Academic Consultants. The Course Coordinators delivered the results to parents and also discussed with the parents about the latest updates and progress.
Finally, the Lecturers as well as the Academic Consultant had an analysis session with the parents to discuss the various study aspects of the students. Good recommendations was given to students and parents for them to achieve greater achievements in future.
“Many of the parents were glad that Olympia had organized the Parents’ Day specially for them and they were glad to see that their children has enjoyed their experience thus far and have been able to interact with different people from all walks of life. The students believe they had made the right choice in coming to Olympia College” Mr Jack added.
