OC Ipoh’s Sports Carnival
Olympia College , Ipoh campus had organized it’s annual Sports Carnival recently on 20 June 2009. The event is a fun-filled day where students and staffs had great fun playing games and building camaraderie.
Normally held in a field, this year the Student Council of Olympia College Ipoh decided to do things a little differently. In view of the hot weather, the Sports Carnival was instead held at the wave pool of Kompleks Renang Bandaraya.
A total of 10 teams comprising 4 members in each team took part. One of the teams consisted of faculty and marketing staff.
The carnival started at 9 am and lasted till 12 noon. A total of 5 games were contested –
- Water Horse – piggy backing a rider to a specific point in the pool. The team who can make the most trips within 3 minutes wins. The ‘horse’ is blindfolded.
- Catcher – water balloons thrown into the water and the team that collects the most balloons win
- Transformer – members of the team are spaced out throughout the length of the pool and water balloons are thrown from one member to another to the last person with a pail to collect the balloons. The team with the most number of balloons in the pail wins
- water polo – a shortened 5 minute game of water polo with 4 aside
- War of the Water Horses – a rider sits on 3 ‘horses’. The objective of the game is to ‘snatch’ the black arm band tied to each team’s rider’s arm, while the horses protect their rider. All 10 teams go into the pool at the same time. The last team with the arm band intact wins.
It was a fun, exhausting and hilarious time for all, in the spirit of sportsmanship. Trophies were awarded to the top three teams.
