OLYMPIA AND POLICE COLLABORATES TO COMBAT CRIME

Due to the rising crime rates in  Johor Bahru, Olympia College in collaboration with the Police organised a seminar cum talk  recently at Olympia College, Johor Bahru campus.  The seminar was called with an objective to build awareness on safety, self-defence methods and prevention of crimes and to enhance the students knowledge and  co-operation between the police and the college to fight crime.

This seminar was divided into 2 sections. It began with a talk by the Chief Inspector Encik. Hasani on Rakan Cop.  The students were briefed on the functions of  Rakan Cop and how to use the service.  It was followed by a talk by ASP Tuan Ramadhan, who explained the role of the police department and the rights, procedures and functions in the police department.

During the seminar, students were also given opportunities to ask a lot of questions about criminal, rapes, safety, self-defence and law. The students being so eager,  took the opportunity to ask  a lot of questions.

The police first introduced the Rakan Cop or friends of the police concept in August 2004 in an effort to bridge ties between the police and the community. The community-oriented policing and smart partnership in Rakan Cop is aimed at creating civic awareness on various aspects of crime prevention, drug abuse, traffic offences, illegal racing and others among the public.  

It allows the public to have two-way communication with the police via SMS, hotline and Multimedia messaging (MMS) if they have information on criminal activities.  

From the seminar, the students  had a better understanding of the role and the functions of the  police force.  The students awareness on crime prevention has increased and they also learnt that they also have a role to play as a citizen.    Olympia College, as a caring corporate citizen  will work hand in hand with the Police as  Olympia believes that crime prevention is  a shared responsibility and that everyone in the community is also involved in guarding the safety of the community by being observant and cooperative  to assist the police combat crime and  towards a   safe and harmonious  environment.
