Gala Night at OB Nite - OCKL
Students and staff of Olympia College, Kuala Lumpur had a gala and fun time at the Orientation Ball Nite with the theme “Red, Black & Fiery” at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya on 7 August 2009.
Principal of Kuala Lumpur campus, Brian Param said, “The Orientation Ball Nite is a yearly event and an earmarked social event within the college calendar. It is organized by the students for the students. This event is unique as students worked very hard to make it a successful event. They looked into every aspect of it from the performances to budget, sale of tickets to sponsorships. They were guided by members of the faculty and were given advice to achieve their objectives. Every year from the period of June to August, OCKL will look at hosting this event.”
Senior management were also present to grace the event and the Guest of Honor was Mr. Kevin Pereira, the Executive Director and family. There were various performances for the night from dances, song performances as well as a sketch by the students. All these activities was co-ordinated by the Students Activity Manager, Mr. Sivanesan.
The highlight of the event was Mr. and Ms Olympia Contest whereby contestants were quizzed and a panel of judges awarded them marks. Subsequently, the winners were announced and crowned. This year, Mr. Olympia title was awarded to Mr. Magen, a Diploma in Information Technology Programme student and the Ms. Olympia title was awarded to Ms. Natasha, a Diploma in Business Management Programme student.
According to Sahaya Sharon and Vishali Vaddebonia, the Chairpersons of the Organizing Committee “This year was even more special as there was a lot of participation from the School of Postgraduate Studies. Many MBA students joined and even performed in the event.”
“Ms Aysegul from the Olympia Business School helped in the sales of the tickets by going class to class. This internal promotion helped to sell tickets. The event was a success as tickets allocated were sold and there were many sponsorships from various companies.” added Vishali.
Ms Sharon quipped “This year was good as we managed to get Mr Ehsan, the English Programme student from Iran to be the host. He had very good chemistry with the other host, Ms Tasha from the Matriculation School. Mr Beng, a Diploma in Business Management student enjoyed himself very much and was very happy that he had been given a chance to flex his acting skills, in a sketch put up by his school.”
Mr Moet, MBA student from Nepal thanked all performers and performed together with his fellow classmates belting out some beautiful songs to the benefit of the audience while playing the harmonica. The event ended with the dance floor open for the students and staff members, who let their hair down to enjoy and groove to the tunes of the D.J.
