OCJB conducts “Employer’s Expectation” Seminar and Grooming & Deportment Training

Olympia College, Johor Bahru campus organised a seminar on “Employer’s Expectation” and “Grooming & Deportment” Training for its students on 18 September 2009 from 9.00am – 2.30pm. The objective of this event is to groom students of Olympia College and to fulfill its mission to be the Employer’s Choice. This is a Corporate Social Responsibility Project conducted for all students for their personal development and growth.

Approximately 110 students attended the event.  The first session was conducted by Dr Raja Mohan on “Employer’s Expectation”. He was assisted by Ms. Shalihah. A captivating message was delivered by Dr. Raj coupled with recent statistics and data. The students also gained knowledge on the right attributes that were required before they go into the working arena.

There was a short break and refreshments were served. The “Grooming and Deportment” training commenced with an introduction speech by Ms. Doreen.  Ms Doreen, a well-experienced person in the working arena, explained the necessity of “Grooming and Deportment” to the students. She also emphasized that the training is a Corporate Social Responsibility Project to lead and guide the students of Olympia College to be the “Employer’s Choice”.

After the impactful speech, she started introducing “Mary Kay Cosmetics” team members. The team was led by the owner, Ms. Corina Law, Ms. Irene and another two colleagues. Firstly, a movie clip was shown on the history and vision of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Subsequently, Ms Irene took over. She conducted a pop quiz that captured the audience’s attention.  The students and lecturers won many attractive gifts by participating and answering correctly.

This was followed by selection of ‘models’ among students of Olympia College. Two female students and three male students were chosen as models by the Mary Kay Team. The female students had their faces cleansed meanwhile Ms Irene explained the essential of grooming.  

Thereafter, students were divided into two groups according to gender basis. The make-up demonstration for female students was conducted by Ms. Doreen and assisted by two of the Mary Kay team members. The grooming for male students was facilitated by Ms. Corina Law and assisted by Ms. Irene.

At the make-up demo (for the female students), Ms Doreen taught them the art and skills required to do professional make-up and also shared grooming tips with the lecturers and the students.

At the male grooming session, three ‘models’ of different races was chosen for the facial cleansing session.  In fact, this was the first time at Olympia College, the male students had the opportunity for grooming. Ms Irene and Corina explained the facial cleansing method, the importance of cleansing and grooming.

Subsequently, Mr Jack, the Principal of OCJB presented a token of appreciation to the facilitators.  The session ends.

Subsequently, Mrs. Kumu showed the students “To Sir With Love” movie clip for 10 minutes.  Mrs. Kumu explained the moral value of the story and conducted Q & A session. Thereafter, the students were divided into 10 groups with facilitators for each group for a brainstorming session.

Ms. Reena took over the session by discussing the importance of dressing professionally and the right way of deportment to the students. The students were shown examples of appropriate dressing and inappropriate dressing. The students were impressed and were inspired to dress according to the professional standards set by the College.

Lastly, the students were given a case study.  The students were divided into groups. Each group was given 10 minutes to solve the case study. The students presented impressively with their opinions, ideas, comments and suggestions. Overall, the seminar and the training was really useful for the students and they were glad that they had attended and also gained more understanding  and knowledge.  It ended around 2.40 pm.
