WORLD FOOD AND FOOD AT OLYMPIA COLLEGE

The International students of Olympia College, Kuala Lumpur campus recently organized an International Food Fair and over 100 students and staff came together to celebrate the unity in diversity.   Flavoured by a melting pot of nationalities, the international food fair featured a scrumptious spread of Middle Eastern, China, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Japan, Bangladesh and Malaysian favourites. Students came to enjoy good food and relax.

According to Mr. Shahid, the lecturer and organizer of this event “The main objective of the event is to let the local students and also the staff to understand the cultures of the international students. In addition, most of the students came to experience the world of food and fun!”

Among the foods served are spicy fried rice and chicken, miso soup, traditional Bengali food, mushroom soup, Sri Lankan chili paste and mango chutney,  you tiao, vadai, tang yuan, jemput-jemput, spicy mashed potatoes, and traditional food from Myanmar.

It was a whole new experience for some of the participants as this is the first time they are trying food from other countries and many of them even further to enquire about the recipes.

One of the students, Mr. Mohammad Adam from Sudan, said: “I have enjoyed the event tremendously and hope that this kind of event is organized annually. Events such as these not only introduces the culture of international students, but also is a get-together for the international students and we also get to socialise with the local students”.

“There was a good mixture of foods and this event is a crowd puller. It is well thought out and organised. I am definitely looking forward to more of this” he added.
 

After enjoying the diverse foods, the participants were also treated to a slide presentation on international students cultures and lifestyles and gained better understanding of various cultures at the end of the presentation.

The students at Olympia College has always been exposed to various sorts of activities to help them work in a team, interact with different cultures and such. The International Food Fair was a successful and a truly worthwhile event thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Olympia College’s international students comes from Korea, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Mongolia,  Thailand, India, Pakistan, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, etc. Thus, the students are exposed to cross-cultural experiences that will enhance their future career pathways locally or internationally.
