Olympia Celebrates Founder’s Day with the Underprivileged Children
Olympia College, Kuantan campus celebrated it’s 9th Founder's Day recently in honor of the late Mr. Winston Pereira, the Founder. For this year, the event was held at the Rapha Home, Kuantan, a shelter for neglected children and was attended by staff and students.
Ms Kamala, the Principal of Olympia College, Kuantan said: “This is done as our contribution towards society. Part of our social obligations is to help those in need and getting the staff and students to contribute their time to a charitable cause.”
Ms Kamala added “Instead of having a party or games, we decided to celebrate the occasion this year by doing a good cause i.e. visit the Rapha Home, bought groceries and provided lunch for them for the underprivileged children. We talked to the kids to help cheer them and made them smile. The cheerful kids made us feel good.”
Prem, a student said: “I feel good doing this as in some small way I am helping the underprivileged children. It taught me how privileged I am to have good life compared to them. Now, I am beginning to appreciate what I have and what I could do to be a caring person.”
From the visit, the student and staff gained satisfaction and awareness of those around who need their assistance and help in whatever ways big or small. They also have better understanding of the needs and wants of the less fortunate children who are in a shelter home and are also aware of their duties and contributions towards the society as a whole.
