Olympia’s Amazing Adventure for a Good Cause
The Executive Business Club (EBC) students of Olympia College organised “Amazing Adventure Charity Food Fair” which was held on 15 September 2007 at Dataran DBI in Ipoh. The event was supported by Jabatan Pendidikan Perak. A total of thirty schools in Ipoh were visited. The major sponsors for the event were Astro and Toyota.
The event was graced by Datuk Alex Chan, MP for Simpang Pulai and Encik Hamidun Abdullah of Jabatan Pendidikan Tinggi Swasta Perak.
Ms Cindy Chong Evans, the Principal of Olympia College, Ipoh campus said “the objective of the event is to instill a spirit of sharing and caring for the less fortunate among the students.” The students had done themselves proud by organizing this event successfully and we at Olympia College are very supportive of such activities as we would like our students to be caring citizens.”
A mental and physical challenge activity was also held to test the endurance skills. The activity was successful as 24 teams (comprising of 3 persons) from secondary schools took part in the Amazing Adventure. The event is fashioned after the popular TV programme, Amazing Race. The participants went all around the Greentown Business Centre to collect clues and solve mental and physical challenges.
The first prize of RM 1,000 was sponsored by Olympia College, Ipoh. It went to the three students from SMK St Michael. At Dataran Ipoh, a charity food fair was running concurrently to raise funds.
The event was organised at a cost of RM 20,000, raised from sponsorships and sale of coupons for the food fair. Participation for the teams were free. The Executive Business Club had made a profit of RM 3,000. EBC plans to spend RM 2,500 to purchase food staples and other necessities for three homes for the mentally and physically challenged individuals.
The event concluded with a dance performance and entertainment by the Olympia Idol singers.
