ETIQUETTE DINING FOR OLYMPIA’S SECRETARIAL STUDENTS

The Executive Secretaryship Department of  Olympia College Johor Bahru campus, also known as CES Department recently organised a get together for the students for etiquette in dining at the Italian Restaurant at Taman Perling.  The CES Department invited Ms Francoise, an authority on the subject to teach them the skills required on etiquette dining.   It was a good opportunity for the students to learn the skills and etiquette required when dining and put it into practice.  The get-together fostered a good relationship among the lecturers and the students. Everyone had a good time. A  Certificate of Attendance was issued to all the participants. 

At Olympia College the field of secretarial studies is given much importance when secretaries are taught how to carry themselves well.  There is a misconception that secretaries are mere assistants to their bosses, but in today's industrial environment, they have become partners to their bosses, as they are nowadays completely trusted on to be in charge of the office.

Those without a formal secretarial training, would probably be carrying out straightforward duties such as receiving visitors, answering telephone calls and filing all their boss's correspondence. But a trained secretary does much more. She provides more support by being involved in planning his appointments so that he covers more work in one visit. Likewise, she represents him and knows his expectations. Therefore she helps him make decisions.

Today's secretaries should be familiar with multi-tasking. They have to be able to juggle work responsibilities and meet deadlines for their bosses. They work for more than one boss. They do so much more than the secretaries of yesterday.  The secretarial students of Olympia College all obtain jobs by the time they graduate.  With a compulsory two-month job placement, all students go out to work in companies as trainees, and by the time the two months are over, they are usually taken on as permanent staff and they begin their career.
