Course Structure

The BA (Hons) in International Business degree awarded by Nottingham Trent University, UK aims to provide students with a generalist business education and a specialist under-standing of the many aspects of international business.

The programme has been designed to prepare students for the dynamic field of international business where they would need to have an understanding of the international issues as well as be equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to influence and make significant contributions in the management of businesses across national frontiers.
The programme aims to equip students with:

  • A general business education, which shows how the key business functions are integrated and how they may be managed to gain competitive advantage;
  • A specialist understanding of the different aspects of international business and of the instinctiveness of cross-border management;
  • An awareness of the demands upon the international manager and the body of conceptual and technical knowledge necessary to manage "internationally";
  • Knowledge and understanding of specialised areas within the field of international business management;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the environment of global business, including structures of industry, competition and market regulation;
  • Expertise in international business research and knowledge management;
  • A set of enhanced language skills;
  • A high level of inter-cultural effectiveness and cross-cultural literacy;
  • A series of advanced skills and competencies required for effective learning and for professional contributions in the field of international management.

Entry Requirement

  • A minimum 2 GCE 'A' levels passes or equivalent qualifications.
  • A minimum 2 STPM Principal passes or
  • UEC plus 5 SPM credits or
  • A recognised University Foundation or Access programme.
  • Evidence of English Language proficiency such as a score of 550 TOEFL, overall band of 6.0 for IELTS or other equivalent.
  • Foreign students who are not covered by the above entry criteria will be assessed individually.

On successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:-

  • Understand the nature of organisations, their management and the changing external environment in which they operate;
  • Demonstrate a critical appreciation of evolving practice and theory in the field of business and management;

Skills, qualities and attributes:
  • Play a role at company level in the development and implementation of international business strategies;
  • Demonstrate command of a range of competencies relevant to cross-border management, including inter-cultural awareness and understanding;
  • Employ cognitive skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis in a professional context;
  • Demonstrate a range of transferable skills including inter-personal, presentation and communication skills, using a range of media and technologies;
  • Demonstrate enhanced ability in a target language as a medium for understanding, expression and communication;
  • Demonstrate a capability to engage in autonomous rational inquiry and to work both independently and collaboratively, managing resources effectively;
  • Conduct academic or professional research activity in a coherent and systematic fashion, with design and application of appropriate methodologies;
  • Evidence leadership and team-building capacity, including a willingness to engage in constructive public discourse and in a manner that is both socially and ethically responsive.
