WORKSHOP ON “HOW TO PROSPER IN TOUGH TIMES – A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE” BY GUEST SPEAKER, DAVID JACKSON

The word ‘recession’ is often feared by almost everyone, especially business owners, and lately we seem to be hearing the dreaded word frequently. While most people are apprehensive during a recession, it is important to realize that ups and downs are part of the normal cycle. Tough times provide great opportunities for you to excel. In fact, now is the perfect time to build you as a brand.
Realising the importance of coping during tough times, Olympia College had recently organized a workshop by guest speaker, David Jackson on “How to prosper in tough times – a personal perspective” on 27 June 2009 at the Kuala Lumpur Campus to assist the corporate Malaysia, update their knowledge on current business practices from all over the world.
Programme objective:
At the end of this program, participants will :
- Be able to handle difficult situations effectively and respond positively to those situations
- Be motivated to breakthrough their barriers and reach greater heights of achievements
- Learn about their inhibitions, weakness as well as their strengths and learn ways to improve their attitudes and behaviors to excel in their personal and professional lives
- Learn to appreciate life and be transformed and challenged to make a positive difference in every situation
It was an interactive workshop whereby the participants participated in discussions, group activities, asked questions and shared their perspectives. Participants were also shown excerpts from inspiring films to inspire and motivate them to excel. The guest speaker, David Jackson also spoke on few keys to success i.e mindset, relationships, communication, leadership, inspiration and discipline.
David explained that success is, if you plan to make ten calls and you end the day having made fifteen, you are up five calls. You can see what a massive difference this sort of thing could make in year… and what wealth and accomplishment await over a lifetime. Discipline is like a set of magic keys that can unlock all the doors of wealth, happiness, culture, high self-esteem, pride, joy, accomplishment, satisfaction and success.
The guest speaker, David Jackson hails from Australia and is an established trainer for major corporations in Malaysia. David has conducted hundreds of personal development and leadership seminars and workshops in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. He has graduated in commerce studies from the University of Technology, Sydney, and holds a MBA from Macquarie University, Sydney.
David thrives on coaching people to utilize their full potential and he believes that communication and personal development serves as a foundation to one’s success. Hence, he has spent part of his life cultivating special relationships through outstanding performances and helping other meet their personal goals. David has held several positions in the ANZ Banking Group Limited, Australia specializing in Corporate Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Business Strategy.
He has also lectured in Business Administration in Australia before moving on to manage his own business.
After the workshop, participants were more confident and upbeat about life and they were inspired to find greatness in themselves. They were also inspired to look at things differently and to be more effective in whatever they do.
There were also two other speakers i.e. Dr Raken Marimuthu and Mr Maninderjit Singh (a well-known sportsman) who gave a very inspiring and motivating talk to the participants on positive mindset.
